February

nic j.

Every year i wait for February

I’ve always hated the summer time.

it’s too hot, too sweaty, it’s humid, the fan is broken

but as for the winter,

oh i can’t get enough

the cool air, the mountain of blankets on top of me, the holidays, the warm clothes, all of it is just so amazing

i love February in specific.

every year i wait for february.

it’s when strawberries are almost ripe which means they’re just perfect and it’s close enough to spring to have flowers blooming everywhere.

i never understood the appeal of summer.

not until i met you.

you were the sun

and when you told me you loved me

i didn’t cower in the shadows,

i marked my calendar for summer.

every year i wait for february

but you were the sun

and being sunburnt never felt so good

every year i wait for february but you are my sun and you make february feel like summer

and i can't get enough.

every day feels like summer without the humid, without the sweat, without the broken fan.

with you as my sun, everything is so warm in just the right ways.

with you as my sun, even february feels like summer and i didn’t mind

and i still love february,

but i fear the day that february doesn’t feel like summer anymore

i fear the day that i find myself putting on sunscreen

and i fear that i will find myself once again

waiting for february
